San Marino pay tribute to former national player and coach with third edition of Memorial Paolo Benvenuti

The hosts of B & P San Marino claimed top honours from the third edition of the 22155286_10214754885093698_972772537_nMemorial Paolo Benvenuti organised this past weekend by the Sammarinese Volleyball Federation to pay tribute to the former player and coach of their national team, who prematurely passed away on April 16, 2014.

On Saturday afternoon, the home team beat Rubicone InVolley 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-15) in the final to make sure the trophy would stay in San Marino.

“The matches we played at this tournament were a good opportunity to test ourselves before the start of the national league,” said the head coach of the eventual winners, Luca Nanni. “The roster of the teams was not complete and they all were at different stages of their preparations towards the start of the season, but I especially liked my team’s organisation on the court and their determination to win. I take many positives from this tournament, especially since I am currently working with a group of very young players.”

On Sunday evening, the national broadcaster San Marino RTV will air a 15-minute special reportage with highlights of the competition.
