Record-breaking numbers for SCA Championships in 2023

There are extremely exciting weeks and months ahead for the members of the CEV Small Countries Association (SCA) with as many as 24 teams due to compete across the four senior and age-group championships scheduled for later this year!

The programme will get underway with the U20 men’s and U18 women’s tournaments coming up in April in Andorra and Malta, respectively. Andorra will be hosting an SCA event for the first time in many years – with the hosts joined by Gibraltar, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Ireland, and Northern Ireland for the U20 men’s competition running from April 5-8. About a week later (April 14-16), Malta will welcome U18 women’s players for a tournament featuring also Gibraltar, Luxembourg, Ireland, Northern Ireland, and San Marino. The U20 and U18 competitions will start with pool play followed by semis and medal matches.

The real highlight of the year for the SCA family will be the senior championships scheduled for late May and early June. The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg will be playing host to the women’s event with the local ‘Red Lionesses’ joined by the likes of Iceland, Ireland, Malta, Northern Ireland, and Scotland from May 26 to 28, 2023.

Scotland, and more specifically the Oriam Sports Centre in Edinburgh, will welcome six teams for the men’s ‘senior championship’ as well – with the home side taking on Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Northern Ireland, and San Marino. Pool play will be followed by semis and medal matches in these events too.

The numbers are truly impressive and testament to the vitality of the SCA family – and show the desire of their players to compete on the international stage. We look forward to some exciting tournaments and to crowning the next SCA champions!
