The young ‘Red Lionesses’ representing the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg registered four wins in as many matches without dropping a single set to take top honours from the Small Countries Association (SCA) U19 Women Championship held at the iconic d’Coque in Luxembourg City.
The tournament contested as a single round robin featured five teams – and Luxembourg emerged as the clear dominant force as they swept aside all of their opponents without conceding a single set in the process. Ireland finished in second place as they recorded three wins and lost to Luxembourg, with their neighbours from Northern Ireland ending in third place and completing the podium on a 2-2 win-loss record.
Malta and Gibraltar claimed fourth and fifth place, respectively – with Malta celebrating their only triumph in the matchup with Gibraltar.
The event held in Luxembourg City provided an extremely important opportunity for young players from across the SCA to contest an international competition – with many of them enjoying this sort of experience for the very first time in their still young careers.
