img-7331_origOne of the most anticipated events on the Volleyball Ireland calendar took place last week. The Senior Finals crown the best schools teams in the land, and the event at University College Dublin did not disappoint.

Colaiste Mhuire of Ennis, County Clare took home the Girls Senior A title with a 3-0 victory over St Raphael’s of County Galway.

It was a successful day out for teams from the West of Ireland with St Brigids of Loughrea claiming a historic double. Their Senior A trophy was added to the Boys B victory earlier in the day.

The As overcame a spirited Drunshambo 2-0, with the Bs beating St Louis of Carlow 2-1. It was the first double for Mary Barrett’s boys since 2006.

In the girls’ B competition, Rockford Manor of Dublin made a short journey home with the trophy.

The girls’ C final created the best atmosphere of the day with Mercy School from Tuam, Galway winning the deciding set to win 2-1 to set off a court invasion and scenes of joy.
