In what was a real party for the entire Faroese Volleyball community, SÍ Sørvágur’s second team stunned ÍF Fuglafjørður to win the men’s national cup in a five-set thriller while Fleyr Tórshavn’s women came from two sets down to beat Dráttur in the other highlight of the competition featuring age-group finals as well.
Men’s Final
ÍF Fuglafjørður vs. SÍ Sørvágur B 2-3 (20-25, 25-20, 27-25, 19-25, 8-15)
Since they are currently topping the table in the national league, everyone felt like ÍF were the heavy favourites to beat SÍ’s second team, which plays in the second tier of the Faroese championship. However, ÍF knew all too well that SÍ B were not going to be any walkover as they have a wealth of experience with many former internationals who just recently played in the top tier. Together these players account for 178 international matches for the Faroe Islands and that was evident in the first set, which SÍ B won 25-20.
However, as ÍF first levelled at one set all and took a 2-1 lead after a closely fought third set, they looked to have avoided the upset, but suddenly SÍ B got the upper hand again as they went from 12-12 to 25-19 to win the fourth set and set up an exciting ending to the match. SÍ B romped to a 6-0 lead in the all-deciding fifth set and seemed unstoppable, going on to win 15-8 to clinch an unlikely cup title.

Women’s Final
Fleyr Tórshavn vs. Dráttur 3-2 (22-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-21, 15-8)
Leading the league table by a huge margin and having beaten Dráttur twice this season, many regarded Fleyr as the favourites to beat the team from Sandavágur and Midvágur once again in the cup final.
However, Dráttur seemed to be on course for another upset on the day as they won the first two sets, but at 9-9 in the third, Fleyr finally seemed to find their rhythm and went on to win 25-15. The fourth set was tight again, but at 15-15 Fleyr again managed to get ahead by four points to win the set 25-21 to set up the tiebreaker. There, Fleyr quickly took a commanding 7-3 lead which seemed to break Dráttur’s belief, and went on to win the tiebreak 15-8 to seize the title.
