Francesco Tabarini (pictured) and Matteo Zonzini are set to represent San Marino this weekend at the second stop of the Beach Volleyball Tour organised by the CEV Small Countries Division (SCD) in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. The tournament in the alpine principality will run from Friday, August 4 to Sunday, August 6.
Lorenzo Benvenuti and Matteo Zonzini finished in fourth place at last week’s tournament in Portrush, Northern Ireland. This week in Vaduz Zonzini will join forces with Tabarini to represent San Marino on the international stage. The tournament in Vaduz coincides with Tabarini’s comeback to Beach Volleyball after he spent many years playing indoors – doing so also with the Sammarinese Volleyball national team.
Tabarini’s major success in Beach Volleyball dates back to 10 years ago when he won gold at the 2007 Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) in Monaco together with his twin brother Alfredo.
Teams from Cyprus, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are also set to compete in Vaduz this weekend together with Austria’s Peter Eglseer and Florian Schnetzer – who have received a wild card from the organisers.
Zonzini and Tabarini will start their campaign playing Northern Ireland’s Jonathan Workman and Graham Bell. If they win this game, they will take on home stars Manuel Gahr and Maximilian von Deichmann of Liechtenstein, the silver medal winners from this year’s GSSE held in San Marino.
