After the euphoria of winning the All-Ireland Schools title, Dalriada School Under 16 Squad is making a bid to win Northern Ireland Young team of the Year at the Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards in December 2016. Teacher in charge of volleyball at the school, Dr Ian Walker comments “this is one of the best School teams we have ever produced. Every one of the starting six players are playing every week for both their school and club. They play across two clubs – Ballymoney Blaze and University of Ulster, Coleraine. Four of the girls also play international level volleyball for Northern Ireland.”
The team have already won several sports awards including the Northern Ireland Volleyball Young Team of the Year in June 2016. After this they went on to win the same category in their regional Ballymoney Area Sports Awards. This then qualified them for the super council Causeway Coast and Glens Sports Awards and they beat good opposition to become only the second team to win this category.
Congratulations to the girls on winning multiple sports awards and representing our sport well. We wish them all the best at the Belfast Telegraph Awards.
