Instagram provides a view into how they train, eat and relax. Here are four accounts you should definitely follow.

1) Steven van de Velde @steven.vdvelde
Of all the Dutch beach volleyball players, Steven van de Velde is by far the most popular on Instagram. His goal was 10,000 followers, a number he has easily surpassed. Selfies in bed, in the gym, in an airplane and even childhood holiday pictures showing a dog buried in the sand.

With his blonde hair and blue eyes, he has that typical Dutch boy band look. But diehard volleyball fans will also find his account worth following.

2) Casey Patterson @caseypatt
Pure beach volleyball, that’s what Casey Patterson’s Instagram account is about, with great action shots in sunny places.

Patterson has a distinctive look with his Mohawk haircut. The American also likes making short video clips with a GoPro, giving his followers an impression of what it is like to experience a match from his perspective.

3) Rowlandson & Krou @rowlandsonkrou

With 1400 followers, these French players are not yet competing with the likes of Patterson and Van de Velde, who have over 11,000 followers each. However, this account is definitely worth following. The French duo manage their Instagram account together and show what life as a professional beach volleyball player is like. This includes matches, long summer nights on the beach and training sessions and issues. Their photos are a fine mix of professional beach volleyball pictures and selfies.

4) April Ross @aprilrossbeach
Finally, as many as 32,400 followers keep track of April Ross’s Instagram updates, which often centre around inspiring others to play sports and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
